Not going to Passau today

Train and bus strike

Up at 630 and packed ready to go to Passau by train, we learned the train engineers were on strike and it started at 2 am not 2 pm as we had heard the night before. Thanks to helpful and informed staff at Hotel Brack we are not stranded with our suitcases at a train station or bus depot. Also thanks to Viking we shall pick up a shuttle from the airport tomorrow all being well.

Our stay so far has been very enjoyable with amazing breakfasts and friendly staff. Bavarian sausages, pizza and German pastries ensure a full stomach.

So we took a trip up to the market and gazed at the artwork of vendors displaying their wares.

Old architecture and shopping

First full day in Munich we walked to Marienplatz and enjoyed seeing the Glockenspiel tower at 12 noon with its dancing men and jousting Knights, the intricately beautiful churches Frauenkirche and Asamkirche from the outside.

In all we walked for two and a half hours before returning to our hotel for coffee and pastries.

Mostly getting there

Apart from the hour it took to check our baggage and the hour it took to go through security the journey was good and we arrived safely in Munich.

We took the S Bahn to downtown passing scenery which could look like Ajax Pickering on the Go train.

Gabriola to Vancouver

The first part of the journey

This evening looks like this:

Last night was like this:

In between was a lift to the ferry thanks to Joyce, a five hour journey from our island which would take 45 minutes as the crow flies, a 13 minute flight and a lovely steak and lobster dinner with 2 glasses of merlot.

We are getting excited as we plan for our trip and hope that the Goddess of the Wireless world will be with us as we attempt to upload our travels here. Also hope you will join us from time to time, leave a comment to let us know you visited, and that you get to all the fabulous things happening on Gabriola while we are away.
