We are staying in the Villa Florentina, (Westendstrasse 23 - D-60325 Frankfurt www.hotelflorentina.de). It is cosy, friendly, with high ceilings and an ambience of art nouveau. The breakfast room has large comfortable chairs and a library of old books. The breakfast includes yogurt, fruit, cereal, pastries, eggs, cold meats, cheeses, salads, coffee, tea, juices. We really are well cared for here.
Earlier today we walked to the old town. Many markets, many people of various tribes. A petite woman carrying a baby asking for money. Tugs at my heart because any group who are marginalized don't have all the options. We all suffer but I hate to see people begging and wonder how they endure it. Guess that is a sign of my privilege.
The Opera House
At Classico restaurant yesterday I had grilled sole with a variety of vegetables and Tony had a rack of lamb. I finished the meal with creme brûlée. And we both enjoyed digestives - grappa for Tony and limoncello for myself. The food was really good and the creme brûlée with fresh berries was the best l've tasted.
Today we went back to Classico for another delicious meal and had veal. I haven't eaten veal in years because of the way the calves are treated. Had braised veal and it was superb. A great place for good food.
